Training

Local Squadron Training is conducted at Air Cadet Squadrons in communities across Canada from September through June - mirroring the normal academic school year. For more information on the Squadron Training opportunities, follow the menu to Training --> Local.

Summer Training takes place in July and August at Local Cadet Activity sites, regional Cadet Training Centres across Canada and at destinations around the world.

The Cadet Summer Training options continue to be developed as the Canadian Cadet Organization is updated.

Selections for 2014 Courses - Cadets are notified immediately when the Squadron is notified of course selections.

The following is a list of likely course dates. 870 Squadron normally receives selection on Serial A courses. Transportation is usually arranged for 1 or 2 days before the course start and return will be on the last day or 1 day following course completion.

The courses for 870 Squadron are usually held at the Trenton Air Cadet Summer Training Centre (at CFB Trenton), at the Blackdown Army Cadet Summer Training Centre (at CFB Borden) or at the Connaught Army Cadet Summer Training Centre (in Kanata).

Joining Instructions for 2014 Courses - many of the Joining Instructions documents have remained unchanged over several years. The individual forms and documents are only updated when required. When a document is updated, it will be posted below and noted with a bolded date if it has been updated in 2014.

The Joining Instructions are documents that provide details of the summer training centre experience, including what to bring, where Cadets are staying and many other details.

NOTE: For 2014, all Cadets are to bring 2 pairs of black athletic shorts in addition to the items listed in the kit list below.

Annex A - Forms. Complete all that apply and bring them with you.

- Appendix 1 - Kit List (updated: 18 Mar 2011) - This is a list of items all Cadets must bring to their course.
- Appendix 2 - Personal Articles Log (updated: 3 Feb 2010) - Complete this form if the Cadet is going to bring any valuables with them.
- Appendix 3 - Transportation Form (updated: 20 Sep 2011) - All Cadets must complete and bring this with them.
- Appendix 4 - Smoking Consent (updated: 5 Feb 2010) - only complete if the parent is authorizing the Cadet to smoke.
- Appendix 5 - Leave Consent (updated: 7 Jun 2010) - If the parent wants to authorize other people to take the Cadet out on leave, fill this out.
- Appendix 6 - Rules of Conduct (updated: 5 Feb 2010) - This form will be completed on arrival at the Summer Training Centre - it can be filled out before departure.
- Appendix 7 - Over the counter and prescibed medications (updated: 25 May 2010) - Complete this form if the Cadet is bringing any medications.

Annex B - Blackdown (updated: 3 Jun 2014) - These are specifics for Cadets going to the Blackdown Cadet Summer Training Centre.

Annex C - Connaught (updated: 28 May 2014)- These are specifics for Cadets going to the Connaught Cadet Summer Training Centre.
