National Awards

These are Nationally recognized awards that are commonly presented at the Squadron, but have nomination or selection bodies outside of the Squadron:

Lord Strathcona Medal Lord Strathcona Medal Lord Strathcona Medal Medal awarded to a Cadet based on criteria stated in Sp Gp Order 5027-4.
Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence Legion Medal of Excellence Legion Medal of Excellence Medal awarded to a Cadet based on criteria stated in CATO 13-16. Presented by a representative of the Legion.
Air Cadet Service Medal Air Cadet Service Medal Air Cadet Service Medal Medal awarded to cadets who have completed four (4) continuous years of service with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.

Effective October 1, 2020, the Support Group Order 5027-4 was released, detailing the procedures and processes related to the Lord Strathcona Medal including the selection process, criteria, requirements and procedures.

Title Description
R.J. (BOB) STROTHARD AWARD Presented to the first-year cadet who has demonstrated exemplary conduct, deportment and a positive attitude.
RAY GELLINO AWARD (most improved cadet) (Chosen by Warrant Officers and staff) Presented to a cadet at the junior level who has demonstrated improvement in areas including conduct, drill and uniform.
MERV MACDONALD Presented to the senior cadet that has a minimum 90 percent attendance and who fulfills the aims of good citizenship, leadership, and who demonstrates a high level of attendance at mandatory and optional training. Cadet's dress, drill and deportment consistently exceed the standard.

AIRMANSHIP AWARD Presented to the cadet with the top mark on flying scholarship exam.
THE ESPRIT de CORPS AWARD (chosen by fellow cadets) Presented to the individual, who has displayed hard work, dedication, exemplary teamwork, sportsmanship and overall positive, enthusiastic effort for achieving the squadron's goals.
BANDSMEN AWARD (chosen by fellow members) Presented to the cadet in band who has demonstrated the highest level of improvement over the past year. Selected by the Band Staff, the Cadet may be a Piper, Drummer (snare, tenor or bass) or the Drum Major.
JUNIOR NCM AWARD High level of attendance at mandatory and optional training. Cadet's dress, drill and deportment consistently exceed the standard. Level 2
ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE Presented annually to a senior cadet having shown a high degree of participation and leadership in promoting citizenship activities throughout the community and enhancing the aims and objectives of the cadet organization.
LORD STRATHCONA MEDAL The highest Award which can be bestowed upon a Cadet in recognition of exemplary performance in physical and military training.
COMMANDING OFFICER'S AWARD Overall best cadet who consistently surpasses the aims and mission of the cadet movement. This award is presented to a Senior cadet at the Commanding Officer's discretion.
